On Monday we had a photo shoot in Oslo. Some jewellery pics in studio and then we went to Huk, just outside of Oslo and captured some great pics of model Ingrid wearing the A/BARENESS Knitwear. As you can see from the pics it was a beautiful, but chilly day, so Ingrid was very happy she got to wear warm wool clothing!

Looking forward to show you the result!

Abareness: If you could travel to any country in the world- where would you og and why?
Roshani:  Switzerland because of the it’s natural beauty.

Abareness: If you could have another career, what would you like to work with?
Roshani:  I would like to be a businesswoman like you guys.

Abareness: If you were the President of Nepal for a year, which issues in Nepal would you you focus on?

ON THE GO!

NEPAL -> -> -> NORWAY

Anne-Marthe and I are finally in Norway!!!
Looking forward to meeting up with all our family and friends
& lots of exciting activities for A/BARENESS!

After 4 months in Nepal we are struggling a bit with jet lag
even if Nepal is only 4.45 minutes ahead of us...
And yes, that is right, the time difference is a bit strange
as Nepal don't want to have the same time as India!
Or at least that is the best explanation we got when we asked our nepali friends about this issue.

Nevertheless- going to miss Nepal, but now it is all about
Norway for 2 months.

Follow us on Facebook for updates on our POP UP SHOPS and other activities:

BLOG ACTION DAY

TEAMWORK

Today is the international Blog Action Day,
focusing on Human Rights

Just before we shipped our new jewellery
collection to Norway last week,
we had a small gathering
with the artisans behind the A/BARENESS Jewellery.

Namaste from Nepal(:

We are so happy that we are collaborating
with this Metal Workshop, as the
                   people in the management are
                        "on the same page"
and it is a pleasure working with these
                          guys as well.

A part of the A/BRENESS Code of Conduct
is to make sure that the
UN Declaration of Human Rights.
is followed by all the suppliers in our supply chain.
We have a long way to go,
but we will get there step by step.

As the Japanese poet Ryunosuke Satoro once said:

'Individually we are on drop, but together we                   are an ocean'

LIFE IN NEPAL

                                Beauty with a Purpose

* PROJECT SMILE NEPAL *

Local nepali women in Jumla, a rural district
in the western part of Nepal,
attending
PROJECT SMILE NEPAL's free dental camp.

One of the ideas behind this project is to start
teaching the women about oral hygiene-
If you teach a mother something
she will pass on the knowledge to her whole family

Miss Nepal 2013, Ishani Shrestha won the title

 "Beauty with a purpose"

in the Miss World 2013 contest.

The most important
price to be won if you ask us.

Ishani is a dentist herself and takes part in the

PROJECT SMILE NEPAL.

SMILE NEPAL aims to make awareness about the importance
of oral hygiene and
free dental camps for nepali people-

One smile at the time.

You can watch the 5 minute video about this
 important & inspiring project here:

EVERYDAY LIFE

                                       BANDHA = STRIKE

If you stay in Nepal, the meaning of "Bandha" will most likely be one of the first words you get to know.

Bhandha is originally a Hindi word meaning "closed" and it is a form of protest/ general strike used by both political activists or civil people protesting against the government regarding fuel prices, unfairness in the legal "system", non existing systems and....the list can go on forever...

During a serious bandha, a lot of general activities are shut down-
Most affected are shopkeepers who are expected to keep their shops closed, as well as public transport operators of buses and cabs who are expected to stay off the road and not carry passengers.

If they don't agree to these terms the people organizing the strike might use violence and demand bribes.

It is not that we think strike is not a valuable tool
when or if negotiations has stagnated, but here in Nepal it's beeing used all the time and because of that it might have lost it's purposes?

Anyways, this is part of our everyday life and usually the demonstrations are quite peaceful...elections are coming up in Nepal in November so most likely it will be a lot of strikes pre-election..
We are going to Norway end October so it will not affect us too much- It is a lot worse for all the nepali people having to shut down their businesses and losing income even if they are not taking part in the strike.

We wish for political stability and a better future in Nepal.
It will happen eventually.

Peace out...

Love from Karoline & Anne-Marthe
